Pasture 42

PASTURE RAISED CHICKEN EGGS, Dried Fruit

Located on sixty-four acres of pasture in Guinda, Pasture 42 is a small-scale family farm dedicated to sustainable farming practices. Farmers Susan and Ken moved to the Capay Valley from southern Oregon in 2007 to expand their operation and to be close to family. Since then, they have been producing pasture-raised, organically fed meat, eggs, fruit, and olive oil. Their dried navel oranges are a treat at any time of year!

Sustainability includes both ecological and economic components. On the ecological side, sustainable agricultural practices are those that treat the land and environment in such a way that they are preserved or improved over the long term. In this vein, they use no pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers, refrain from giving their animals antibiotics or hormones, and use organically grown feed except when it is impossible to find.

A large part of sustainability is buying locally. Buying locally both reduces the environmental impact of food miles and keeps resources in the local economy. The farmers at Pasture 42 are currently looking for ways to get more, and ideally all, of their purchased inputs, especially feed for their animals, locally.
