Capay Hills Orchard is a true family farm. In 2009 Brian, Gretchen and their six (yes, 6) children, many friends and extended family gathered to remove many 100-year-old almond trees and plant a new, 1400-tree organic-certified almond orchard. Operations were soon expanded to include organic mandarin and navel oranges. Each child accepted a role in the farm operation and sales. Brian transitioned from a full-time Air Force and commercial pilot to a full-time farmer. Capay Hills Orchard sells unpasteurized almonds, almond butter and smoked almonds through their roadside stand and website. Uniquely, they harvest on tarps instead of directly on the orchard floor. They practice regenerative agriculture and often host university research and farm educational outreach programs. The mandarins and oranges are sold by the Capay Valley Farm Shop.
