Good Humus Produce

FRUITS, VEGETABLES, HERBS, CUT FLOWERS, SPECIALTY PRODUCTS — USDA ORGANIC AND REAL ORGANIC PROJECT CERTIFIED

In 1976, Jeff and Annie Main started their farm, Good Humus Produce, near Woodland on a 3/4 acre garden, taking food to the newly-opened Davis Farmers Market and Davis Food Coop. By 1983, they were renting 20 acres of certified-organic land in a corner of the Capay Valley known as the Hungry Hollow, near Capay in western Yolo County. Since their start, Good Humus has been selling to wholesalers, food co-ops, local farmers markets delivering food to Davis, Sacramento and the larger Bay Area. In 1993, they started a CSA program to remain in closer contact with the local people who supported their farm through their everyday meals. With an emphasis on support of the local food system, their vegetables, fresh and dried fruits, and flowers have been available to Capay Valley Farm Shop customers since its start.

Jeff and Annie have a strong commitment to organic agriculture, preserving farmland, farm to school initiatives, farmers markets, Community Supported Agriculture, and family. They raised their three children on the farm, and now they all have returned to work in the family business. Zach, Alison and Claire are now partners and have begun the long process of taking over the small organic farm. Good Humus hosts on-farm events; they have hosted the annual Peach Party since 1993 in celebration and gratitude for the eternal peach harvest.
