Winter Squash
Winter Squash such as Pumpkins, Acorn squash and Butternut squash, actually grow in the warm season and usually ripen in late summer or early fall. Winter Squash get their name because they can be cured and store well.
Caring for Winter Squash: These hard squash are cured and can be stored in a cool, dry spot on the counter for a few weeks. If any soft spots are present or begin to develop use the squash right away.
