Kevin Twomey Photography

Kevin studied photography at SUNY New Paltz and received his BFA in 1992. He has worked commercially in both New York and San Francisco and received numerous awards from the prestigious IPA (International Photography Awards) for his images of organic material from 2006-2009. His work has been exhibited locally as well as in NY and most recently he was commissioned by the city of Emeryville to produce images for a public arts project to be unveiled in 2011.
Kevin’s interest in community-supported agriculture started off very innocently when he went to the local independent grocer’s in search of less-common produce for a personal photography project. His excursions led to interaction with the community of local farmer’s markets and a better understanding of why staying close to the original source of our food was so important. The watershed moment came when someone asked him why he was eating an orange in the middle of July when they are a winter crop. He suddenly realized that the 40 years of giant juice company marketing had successfully made him completely unaware that oranges, too, have a growing season.
